Dogs are known as man’s best friends; they are loyal, they are loving, and simply the best. If you have not experienced this yet and are thinking about having a furry friend of your own, you may want to consider adoption instead of purchasing from a pet store.
The number one reason to adopt a dog is that you will be saving it’s
life. Many shelters are overflowing with pets; they sometimes have to turn away animals simply because they do not have enough room. When you adopt, you are not just helping the one you have adopted, but you also end up making room for another pet in the shelter.
Numerous facilities exist that directly or indirectly contribute to
perpetuating animal abuse, such as Puppy Mills. Puppy mills are
commercial breeding facilities that mass-produce dogs for sale through pet stores, or directly to consumers through classified ads or the internet. Most puppies in pet stores come from Puppy Mills. These commercial breeding kennels can legally keep hundreds of dogs in cages their entire lives, for the sole purpose of breeding. They are confined, in overcrowded cages with minimal shelter from extreme weather. Animals suffer from malnutrition due to starvation or unsanitary food and water. Adult animals are
continuously bred until they can no longer produce, then destroyed or
discarded.
Rescue dogs in shelters are in need of a second chance at a happy
life. Most of the time they are abandoned, lost, helpless or unwanted.
Homeless animals are a real threat on the streets. They are frequently
hit by a car, abused and starved to death. For this reason, dog shelters
are doing their best to save their lives.
There is a common misconception that shelter dogs are stray or
abandoned. Which is not absolutely true. Some dogs in a shelter home
may come from good families who have moved or cannot further
afford to keep a pet or may be due to some family issues. These dogs,
most of the time, are house-trained and have good behaviour, you will
always find them incredibly disciplined.
These days we don’t waste anything. Instead, we recycle them for
future use. Recycled plastic or paper is used in a better way to protect
the environment. Just as a dog who no longer is needed by one family,
can potentially be of great joy to another. Your pet will not only give
you unconditional love, but will understand you emotionally,
psychologically and will prove to be beneficial in being the best
companion you have ever had in your life. Caring for a pet can provide
a sense of purpose and fulfillment and lessen feelings of loneliness.
Not to mention when you adopt, you can also feel proud about helping
an animal in need.
